Our Departments
the Extensive Reading Movement is organised into core departments that work together to promote literacy, build confidence, and inspire a lifelong love for reading among students across the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region and beyond.
Clubs
Structured reading clubs in partner schools where students read together, share stories, and grow in confidence under the guidance of trained club patrons and teachers.
Festivals
Our Main Reading Festival, held annually on 8th September (International Literacy Day), brings schools and communities together for storytelling, reading competitions, and joyful celebration of books.
Teachers
Professional development workshops, mentoring, and resources that equip teachers with practical strategies to build a strong reading culture in their classrooms, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service.
Libraries
Collecting and distributing engaging books, establishing school libraries, and creating reading corners so every child has access to enjoyable reading material.
Community
Engaging parents, community leaders, and local volunteers to champion reading beyond the classroom and make literacy a shared value across the community.
Research
Tracking reading progress, assessing programme impact, and using evidence to strengthen our work and accountability to communities and partners.
Early Literacy
Focused support for early grade learners to build strong foundational reading skills — the first step on every child's journey to confident, lifelong reading.
Partnerships
Building alliances with schools, the Ghana Education Service, and like-minded organisations to advocate for reading-friendly policies and expand the movement's reach.
